The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) announced on Tuesday the termination of contracts for a number of its employees who are residents of the Gaza Strip but are currently outside the sector. This is part of measures aimed at alleviating the financial crisis the agency is facing. According to an internal memorandum issued by the Acting Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza, Sam Rose, the decision includes the financial settlement of employees' entitlements, including notice pay and end-of-service benefits. The agency set January 17 as the final deadline for completing the separation procedures. UNRWA also confirmed its commitment to providing professional and psychological support to the employees affected by this decision. The decision affects approximately 600 workers in the education sector, most of whom are in Egypt.
