Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, warned of the possibility of potential attempts at "ethnic cleansing" in the Gaza sector. In a statement at the conference on disarmament policy, he noted seeing "very dangerous signs," indicating the possibility of such crimes in this region.
"I call on all countries, all sides, and especially those countries that have influence over groups in the Western bank and in Gaza, to stop any actions that could lead to the ethnic cleansing of Gazans," said Guterres.
The Secretary-General emphasized that such actions amount to violations of international law and norms, and could also lead to violations against the values of humanity.
Guterres also drew attention to the urgency of diplomatic engagement to resolve the conflict between Israel and Palestine and called on the U.N. to restore dialogue between the parties.
