UNRWA Announces Increase in the Number of Palestinian Refugees

The United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced that around 660,000 Palestinians in Syria remain in need due to the complex economic situation and humanitarian crisis exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Resources and management capabilities are severely limited, preventing the organization from providing necessary attention to the most vulnerable groups, particularly refugees from Palestine in Syria. Due to funding difficulties, a significant portion of the support programs has been suspended, which aggravates the already critical situation of people needing assistance.

"Immediate funding is essential to continue providing support to refugees from Palestine, especially in such a complex period," highlighted the UNRWA representative.

According to the agency, approximately 95% of Palestinian refugees in Syria live away from Palestinian camps, making them vulnerable to poverty and limiting access to humanitarian assistance. In such a situation, the continuation of support and oversight for these groups becomes an important task that requires urgent intervention and partnership from the international community.
