The Israeli Army killed two Palestinians in occupied West Bank in two separate incidents. The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that soldiers opened fire on an elderly person in Jenin and on a young man in Hebron. With these deaths, the number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of 2025 rises to 53.
During the last weekend, Israeli armed forces also killed five other people in the Jenin governorate, including a 16-year-old teenager named Ahmed al Sadi, in an airstrike. In a drone bombing in the nearby town of Qabatiya, two other Palestinians were killed.
The Israeli army expanded its military operation to northern West Bank, reaching Tamun in the Tubas governorate, after having attacked Jenin and Tulkarem. The major operation, which could last for months, was preceded by attacks from the Palestinian Authority forces against Islamist militias in Jenin.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the army would remain in the Jenin camp even after the offensive concludes. Occupied West Bank is experiencing an increase in violence, marking the largest spiral of violence since the Second Intifada.
A refugee camp in Jenin was evacuated after 30,000 residents fled due to the Israeli military operation. The United Nations confirmed that much of the camp was destroyed and about one hundred houses were severely damaged. In 2024, at least 491 Palestinians died from Israeli fire, including militants and civilians, among them 75 children.
UNRWA spokesperson Juliette Touma mentioned that the evacuated population from the camp is in surrounding areas or other nearby camps. The agency noted that the most violent day was Sunday, coinciding with the return of students to classrooms. UNRWA has thirty schools in West Bank serving over 5,000 children. Armed violence in West Bank has increased since January 21, a few days after the truce in Gaza.
