The debate over the circumstances of the killing of Yasser Abu Shabbah, leader of the so-called "Popular Forces" opposing Hamas in Gaza, has not yet subsided when the name of Ghassan Al-Dahini appeared as a possible successor. Footage has emerged of him inspecting a group of his masked armed fighters, confirming that he is not afraid of Hamas and is trying to prepare the area for civilians. According to Israeli media reports, the 39-year-old Al-Dahini, who was seen in a military uniform inspecting the "Popular Forces" in southern Gaza, was also injured in the attack that claimed Abu Shabbah's life. Like his predecessor Abu Shabbah, Al-Dahini hails from the Tarabin tribe. He served as an officer in the security services of the Palestinian Authority before Hamas took control of Gaza in 2007, before becoming a leader.
