Israeli Airstrike Kills Two Palestinians in Gaza

An Israeli artillery bombardment in Shujaiya, Gaza, has resulted in two Palestinian deaths and several injuries amid ongoing indirect talks between Hamas and Israel for a truce extension.

An Israeli artillery bombardment in the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians and left several injured, according to the Ministry of Health of the Palestinian enclave. This attack comes amid indirect talks between Hamas and Israel to extend the ceasefire between both parties.

The Israeli Army issued a statement indicating that they attacked "several terrorists" who were attempting to place an explosive device on the ground near their troops in northern Gaza. Since the ceasefire took effect on January 19, Israeli troops have killed over a hundred Palestinians, including minors.

Additionally, on Sunday, it was reported that an Israeli drone fired at civilians in the Zafarana area, east of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, although no casualties have been reported so far.

The uncertainty regarding the continuation of the ceasefire has caused fear among the Gaza population, given the possibility of daily bombardments resuming in the devastated region. Negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire have not yielded results, despite the first phase concluding with prisoner exchanges between Hamas and Israel.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the current death toll stands at 48,453 and the number of injured at 111,860, in addition to the thousands missing under the rubble who have yet to be rescued. Tensions persist amid this scenario of instability in the region.
