WFP Warns of Food Security Risks in Gaza

The brand of the Food Security Program of the United Nations warns that achievements in the field of food security in the Gaza sector are at risk. This is related to the fact that almost half of the population of Gaza is in need of humanitarian assistance due to food shortages. The organization indicates that every third family in the Gaza sector has faced food insecurity due to the economic crisis, which has worsened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Within the framework of efforts to ensure food security, in 2020 the program provided assistance to more than a million people in Gaza. However, in 2021 the funding for the program was curtailed, which creates a threat to maintaining food security in the region. As noted by the representative of the Food Security Program, cuts in funding may lead to further reductions in the amount of humanitarian assistance, making millions of Gaza's residents even more vulnerable to hunger and food deprivation. In its statement, the brand also calls on the international community to increase its efforts to ensure funding for food assistance in the Gaza sector to prevent a hunger catastrophe among the local population.
